Part 1 of Morten Thomte's little documentary (in 4 parts) about "The Free State Søyr". It's the story about how Søyr made the ferry boat "Innvik" into a concert arena during the Molde Jazz Festival of 1997. The band was living on board and working around the clock to produce fresh, "deadline art"-inspired shows every night during the festival week. The shows involved tons of music, poetry, invited guests, multi-media, a newspaper and lots of fun.

In this recording for NRK Radio in 1981, the late saxophonist Nils Jansen and the late trumpeter, composer and arranger Kenny Wheeler are at their very best, both being featured extensively in these takes. Sadly, Søyr didn't make records during Wheeler's period with the band, so this is one of very few recordings with him and Søyr.
